Soldiers of the Land began one evening around an oak slab table in a horse barn. A small group of veterans and patriots sat together working on equipment and paperwork, doing what we do best - talking about our day, our triumphs, and our failures. It was the kind of honest barn talk that happens between friends and colleagues. The conversation eventually turned to something deeper. We started talking about what we wished we'd known when we were starting our respective agriculture careers. That led to a bigger question: wouldn't it have been nice to have someone around to steer us in the right direction when we were first starting out in business?We talked about the challenges we'd faced - navigating government paperwork, understanding financial strategies, dealing with marketplace uncertainty, and figuring out the business side of farming. Each of us had learned through trial and error, and we all knew there had to be a better way. When I finally voiced what we were all thinking - "We should do this" - the whole table went quiet. Everyone stopped what they were working on and looked up. The idea hung in the air for a moment, and then it became clear to all of us: we should help the next generation feed the country. We should help our brothers and sisters in arms start their agricultural careers with guidance, mentorship, and the knowledge we'd fought hard to gain. The rest of that evening was spent taking notes and planning. We turned that good idea into something real - a mission to support veteran farmers and ensure the next generation doesn't have to walk the same difficult path we did.
